Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Champeaux 2017, Henri Magnien
£125.00
Champeaux is Gevrey-Chambertin’s northernmost Premier Cru vineyard, next to the boundary of the village of Brochon. Its easterly exposure means it is protected from the prevailing westerly weather, and it faces the morning sun, while encountering shade in the late afternoon. It has exceptionally shallow, rocky, well-drained soil, leading to concentrated wines, although these often have firmer, more ‘rustic’ tannins than those from Gevrey-Chambertin’s south-facing Premier and Grand crus. These characteristics mean that Charles Magnien’s sensitive winemaking style are perfect to coax finesse and gentleness from this stony terroir.
